World consumption of petroleum and other liquid fuels grows by 83 million barrels oil per day.  By the year 2030, growth will exceed 118 million per day. The largest increases in consumption between 2004 and 2030 are projected for North America and Asia, at 7 and 15 million barrels per day, respectively.

World oil prices have increased exponentially with the increase in demand.  Today, the price of crude oil is exceeding $90/barrel, and expected to rise to over $100 in 2008.  

As crude oil production is being taxed to the limit, whenever anything occurs to limit production, prices soar.  This could be a pending hurricane, terrorist attack, Oil Rigs going offline for maintenance, etc. Regardless of where in the world the problem occurs, oil prices are affected.

To help reduce Oil Rig downtime, Harmonic Footprinting SmartSensors can be installed at pivotal joints and then be continuously monitored 24/7.  It is far less costly to replace an oil rig joint before it breaks than pay for the correction after the fact.

As many Oil Rigs sit in locations subject to environmental hazards, Harmonic Footprinting SmartSensors can help with that too.  Once our SmartSensors are positioned on the Oil Rig, we can monitor the affects of, for example, a hurricane right before, during and after.  We can identify the exact locations that  require immediate attention, reducing the amount of time an Oil Rig is out of service for repairs and maintenance.
